James Ramirez and Grayson Graham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ramirez struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Graham tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Ramirez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two doubles, while Graham got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI. Elkhart Christian Academy is undefeated when Ramirez posts two or more runs, but 5-17 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Hurt, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Hummer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Triton sidestepped South Central for a 2-1 win.
Braxton Kaufman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Triton's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Bingamon, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Triton is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, their record now sits at 8-17.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Elkhart Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elkhart Christian Academy suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Triton when the teams last played back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
