The Spring Valley Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 76-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Coronado. While losing is never fun, Spring Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Coronado is ranked fifth).
When it comes to explaining why Spring Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alijah Adem. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Adem is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. CJ Joshua was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Coronado's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tee Bartlett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds. Bartlett is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Josiah Cunningham, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
Spring Valley's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Coronado, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.
Spring Valley will head out on the road to square off against Arbor View at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Arbor View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Spring Valley likes a good challenge. As for Coronado, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
