The Erie Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Broomfield Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Erie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Erie came up short against Silver Creek and fell 6-3.
Erie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Burnett, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Broomfield). They blew past Boulder 14-2 on Monday. Considering the Eagles have won five games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Nate Wochner looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Talan Hutchings was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Caden Williamson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Broomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Broomfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Erie, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Erie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Erie came up short against Broomfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
