Even though the Telluride Miners scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the Crested Butte Titans still came out on top. Crested Butte enjoyed a cozy 73-59 victory over Telluride. That's another feather in the cap for Crested Butte, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Crested Butte's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Weston Miller, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Riley Davis, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Several Miners players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Townes Merritt, who scored 16 points. Merritt has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Berry, who scored 20 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Crested Butte and bumps their season record up to 5-2. As for Telluride, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crested Butte will take on Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Center will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 315th, while Crested Butte is ranked 77th). As for Telluride, Telluride and Mancos will face off at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mancos will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
