It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Statesville Greyhounds had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 28-27 victory over South Point. For Statesville, this counts as revenge for the 42-21 loss South Point walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2015.
Harrison McKinney and Patrick Blee certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. McKinney rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while Blee rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Statesville's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for South Point, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Statesville will head out on the road to face off against Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Crest's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season. South Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
