The Cayuga Wildcats will face off against the Mildred Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cayuga comes in on 11 and Mildred on four.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cayuga and Trinidad, and Cayuga kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Trojans on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Jesse Wilfong, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Beusch, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mildred got the win against Oglesby last Thursday by a conclusive 11-3. The Eagles are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Layton Atkeisson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Braydon Spurlock was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Charlie Judson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Mildred was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in three consecutive games.
Mildred's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Cayuga, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cayuga has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Mildred struggles in that department as they've averaged .517. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cayuga couldn't quite finish off Mildred when the teams last played back in March of 2025 and fell 2-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
