The South Salem Saxons put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They breezed by Sprague on the road to the tune of 50-14. The result was nothing new for South Salem, who have now won seven matchups by 24 points or more so far this season.
South Salem was led to victory by Esteban Mendez and Athan Palmateer. Mendez picked up 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Palmateer threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Mendez is on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in the last three games he's played.
South Salem's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 McNary and 1-7 Sprague (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.5% over those games). As for Sprague, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
South Salem will look to defend their home field on Friday against North Salem at 7:00 p.m. North Salem will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oregon Rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while South Salem is ranked fifth). As for Sprague, they will head out on the road to face off against McNary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. McNary is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
