The Shaw Raiders will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Westover Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Westover took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Shaw, who comes in off a win.
Shaw posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 53-25 win over Cairo on the road. The win was just what Shaw needed coming off of a 62-28 loss in their prior game.
Shaw's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tiara Tucker, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Tucker has scored at least a third of Shaw's points. Another player making a difference was Quishyi Walcott, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Westover came up short against Monroe on Tuesday and fell 61-48. Westover has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Westover's loss came about despite a quality game from Jada Landers, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Wykieria Holmes, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Shaw's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Westover, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Shaw have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 31.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Westover struggles in that department as they've only made 30.5% of their threes per game this season. Given Shaw's sizeable advantage in that area, Westover will need to find a way to close that gap.
Shaw took a serious blow against Westover in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 54-22. Will Shaw have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
