Softball Game Preview: Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars vs. Goodhue Wildcats

Zumbrota-Mazeppa is a perfect 7-0 against Goodhue since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will square off against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Zumbrota-Mazeppa will be strutting in after a victory while Goodhue will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Zumbrota-Mazeppa took on Pine Island on Monday. The Cougars came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 11-6.

Meanwhile, Goodhue was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 15-9 to Houston.

Aubrey Christianson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Nelson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Goodhue, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything went Zumbrota-Mazeppa's way against Goodhue when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Zumbrota-Mazeppa made off with a 14-4 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
