The Penns Manor Comets will head out to challenge the Northern Cambria Colts at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Penns Manor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Penns Manor is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Cambria Heights on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders. The match marked the first time this season in which the Comets were not able to get on the board.
Penns Manor saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allie Rhea, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Northern Cambria waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Indians 12-1.
The team relied heavily on Alexa Fox, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Davis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Northern Cambria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Penns Manor dropped their record down to 5-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Northern Cambria, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Northern Cambria's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Penns Manor has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Northern Cambria, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Penns Manor's sizable advantage in that area, the Colts will need to find a way to close that gap.
Penns Manor was able to grind out a solid win over Northern Cambria when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
