The Highland Fighting Scots will challenge the Clear Fork Colts at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Highland has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Highland is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since April 14th on Wednesday. They fell just short of River Valley by a score of 6-4. The Fighting Scots haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Lydia Shaffer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Saylor Squires was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Braylin Romshak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Clear Fork lost a heartbreaker to Madison Comprehensive when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Monday. The Colts fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-2.
Clear Fork saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mya Perry, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. Another was Katrina Rogers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Clear Fork's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 11-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Highland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Clear Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Highland might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Clear Fork when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Fighting Scots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
