Fayetteville Christian is 9-1 against Northwood Temple Academy since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Warriors are taking a road trip to challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Fayetteville Christian turned things around against Village Christian Academy on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Knights. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jordan Winans made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. That earned run marked the first that she tossed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bailey Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Natalie Ysasaga was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Fayetteville Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Northwood Temple Academy made easy work of Village Christian Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 23-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Fayetteville Christian, Northwood Temple Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Bailey DeCarmine. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. DeCarmine was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carly Bailey, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Addison Wood, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Northwood Temple Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for Fayetteville Christian, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-7.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fayetteville Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like Northwood Temple Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .667. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fayetteville Christian might still be hurting after the 25-10 defeat they got from Northwood Temple Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
