Ryan Walker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, St. John's rose to the challenge on Thursday. They never let the Mighty Hoppers get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. That's two games straight that the Cadets have won by exactly 15 runs.
Like National Cathedral, St. John's also got a great game from a two-way player: Chloe Armiger. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Armiger was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Logan Brooks was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Yasmin Burrell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. John's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Georgetown Day only posted an OBP of .143.
St. John's is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for National Cathedral, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Sunday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. National Cathedral hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like St. John's struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
National Cathedral suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to St. John's when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can National Cathedral avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
