This season hasn't been kind to the Ocracoke Dolphins, who are still winless after their sixth match. They took a serious blow against Croatan on Saturday, falling 53-15. Ocracoke has not had much luck with Croatan recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Ocracoke's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Dibanhi Santiago, who scored 8 points, and Jami Martinez who scored 7 points. Santiago scored a full 53.3% of Ocracoke's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Croatan was led to victory by Cailin Ames and Landry Clifton. Ames scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds, while Clifton scored 14 points along with 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Clifton has scored at least 25% of Croatan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Mendolia, who scored 4 points along with 13 rebounds.
Ocracoke has yet to win a game at home this season, leaving them with a 0-6 record. As for Croatan, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ocracoke will square off against Washington Montessori at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Washington Montessori comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Croatan will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against East Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th. East Carteret presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Croatan in North Carolina (East Carteret is ranked 158th, while Croatan is ranked 426th).
