2A District 1 recap October 8, 2013
Tohatchi took down Wingate 51-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Justin Smith threw for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 65 yards in the win.
The Cougars' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Smith chipped in 65 yards. Aaron Yazzie helped Tohatchi's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 32 yards.
He went 11-16 with 2 interceptions.
Smith was the best running back in 2A District 1 this week. Marcus Burbank also contributed to the rushing game with 57 yards on the ground.
Tohatchi's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Cougars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 776 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Burbank has 15 catches for 502 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Tohatchi takes on second place Laguna Acoma. Last week, Tohatchi defeated Wingate, while Laguna Acoma beat West Las Vegas.
The Hawks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,799 from 12,621. The advance stemmed from a 46-6 victory over the Dons last week.
