Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Sailors will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sarasota is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Sarasota took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Braden River 17-0. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Tyler Sciesinski was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sciesinski was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Sommer Speers and Mady Pint did most of the damage at the plate: Speers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Pint went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Speers has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gia Depastino, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Sarasota always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Braden River only posted an OBP of .100.
Meanwhile, Lakewood Ranch suffered their biggest defeat since March 12th on Thursday. They lost 18-1 to Bishop Verot. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Lakewood Ranch saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Toscano, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Sarasota's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Lakewood Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Sarasota took their win against Lakewood Ranch when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sailors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
