Cheney Tech hasn't had much luck against Wilcox RVT recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Chargers will take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Cheney Tech was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene last Friday. They skirted past Vinal RVT 10-8.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wilcox RVT). They never let Bulkeley get on the board and left with a 28-0 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Chloe Enger made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, firing off eight RBI, four runs, and three doubles while going 5-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Wilcox RVT got a massive performance out of Gabby Velez, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one double. Those five runs gave Velez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Suarez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
Wilcox RVT always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .900. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Wilcox RVT pushed their record up to 20-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Cheney Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Cheney Tech might still be hurting after the 28-12 defeat they got from Wilcox RVT in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
