Taryn Close put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Allyson Selby made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington). They blew past Hedgesville 13-3 on Saturday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Like Spring Mills, Washington also got a great game from a two-way player: Zoe Kesterson. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kesterson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Clayton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Gabby Bibb was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Washington's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Spring Mills, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Spring Mills suffered a grim 25-1 defeat to Washington in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Spring Mills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
