Manatee is a perfect 4-0 against Port Charlotte since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Hurricanes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Manatee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Manatee was handed a 15-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Hardee 11-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hurricanes considering their one-run performance the contest before.
The team relied heavily on Jenna Caldwell, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maleah Lowe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Manatee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Port Charlotte, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Oasis on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Sharks: they've now won six in a row.
Jaylin Pinedo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Abigail Donahue and Brianna Weidner did most of the damage at the plate: Donahue went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Weidner went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Donahue a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Flanagan, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Port Charlotte's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Manatee, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
Everything went Manatee's way against Port Charlotte in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Manatee made off with an 11-4 win. Will the Hurricanes repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
