Baseball Recap: Villa Madonna Wins Going Away Against Holmes

While Villa Madonna put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Holmes. The Vikings blew past the Bulldogs 10-0. Considering the Vikings have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Brandstetter made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Villa Madonna is 6-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Brandstetter was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Andres Elizalde was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Timm, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Villa Madonna pushed their record up to 11-8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Holmes, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Villa Madonna will venture away from home to face off against Williamstown at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Holmes, they will head out to take on Bellevue at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
