With a playoff game on the line, the Canyon Comanches rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 61-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremy Loreto led the charge by scoring 18 points along with two steals. Loreto hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Josh Goodall was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. As for Rancho Cucamonga, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-11.
Canyon will square off against Los Alamitos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Los Alamitos knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 28 contests -- so hopefully Canyon likes a good challenge. Rancho Cucamonga does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
