It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the McCormick Chiefs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 63-56 victory over Dixie. Winning may never get old, but McCormick sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Demontae Wideman was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 16 points along with four steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrence Cartledge, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Dixie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaren Byers. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with four steals. Byers is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kadin Stoll, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
McCormick pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Dixie, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McCormick's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Dixie, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ware Shoals is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.
