Archbishop Spalding has won four straight games at home, while Mount de Sales Academy has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Cavaliers will welcome the Sailors at 4:30 p.m. Archbishop Spalding is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Archbishop Spalding sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over John Carroll.
Cessi Prince spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Emily Ford was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Taylor Codi was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mount de Sales Academy got the win against Mercy on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-7. The victory continues a trend for the Sailors in their matchups with the Magic: they've now won nine in a row.
Brooke Fuhr made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Fuhr was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, Ava McQueen was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Berger, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Mount de Sales Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Archbishop Spalding has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mount de Sales Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Archbishop Spalding hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Mount de Sales Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Archbishop Spalding beat Mount de Sales Academy 7-2 in their previous matchup on April 4th. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sailors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
