The Caston Comets are taking a road trip to challenge the Winamac Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Caston was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Marion 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since May 10, 2024.
Hadlie Coffing spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Myli Rude, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Natalie Warner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Winamac ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Twin Lakes, sneaking past 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.
Lauren Bruce was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Makayla Werner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Caston's record now sits at 4-12. As for Winamac, their record is now 15-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Caston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Winamac struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Caston took their victory against Winamac in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
