The Caro Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Sandusky Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Caro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Sandusky's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Caro's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when New Lothrop hitters got past them. The Tigers fell 10-6 to the Hornets on Saturday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Caro got a good showing from Landyn Stine, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Stine didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Wyatt Waterman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Grice, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Sandusky made easy work of Harbor Beach on Thursday and carried off a 13-3 win. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Peyton Bowerman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Jack Betts and Nathan Ball did most of the damage at the plate: Betts went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Ball got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That triple marked the first that Betts has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Chase Green, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Sandusky was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Sandusky pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Caro, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Caro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sandusky struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Caro took their win against Sandusky when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
