Tri-County recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sand Creek, who took down 355th ranked Morenci, 27-26.
The Aggies moved up to 383 from 439 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Tri-County. A 27-26 win over the Bulldogs helped Sand Creek improve its standing.
TJ Baker put up the best numbers through the air as Clinton beat Whitmore Lake. He finished with 11 completions for 175 yards and one touchdown. Baker's favorite target this week was Mathew Sexton, who caught two passes for 42 yards.
Leighton Merritt was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 165 yards as Britton-Macon/Deerfield bested Madison. Teammate Tommy Garner added to the ground attack by rushing for 12 yards.
Burnor was the best wideout in the league this week as the Patriots defeated the Trojans. Burnor racked up two receptions for 43 yards. Kris Iott helped Britton-Macon/Deerfield's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.
The Redskins' Baker and Sexton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Tri-County in both passing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 795 yards this season, while Sexton, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has eight catches for 224 yards. Merritt from Britton-Macon/Deerfield leads the league in rushing with 740 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Clinton takes on Morenci. Scott Mcnitt's team is currently in first, while Tom Saylor's team is in fourth.
The Redskins extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Trojans, 61-0. The win marks sixth in a row for the Clinton.
