Bagdad is a perfect 4-0 against Joseph City since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Sultans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Bagdad is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
While Bagdad's win against Desert Heights Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sultans had just enough and edged out the Yote 5-3. The Sultans haven't had any issues with the Yote recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Joseph City got the win against Red Mesa on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Kase Fish and Kyan Larsen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Fish pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Larsen pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Fish went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Larsen got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Joseph City is 2-1 when Fish posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jeffrey Howerton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tytan Penrod, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Joseph City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Red Mesa only managed five hits.
Joseph City pushed their record up to 6-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Bagdad, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bagdad has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Joseph City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Bagdad's way against Joseph City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Bagdad made off with a 22-1 victory. Do the Sultans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
