The LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Wabasha-Kellogg by a score of 47-44. The matchup was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but LeRoy-Ostrander couldn't quite close it out.
Despite the defeat, LeRoy-Ostrander had strong showings from Miranda Nagel, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Benita Nolt, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nolt hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Jenna Olson, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, LeRoy-Ostrander smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their 15th loss (out of 17 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Brielle Adams went supernova for Wabasha-Kellogg, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Mackenzie Paddock was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five steals.
Wabasha-Kellogg was without their leading scorer, Ileana DeAngel, in Tuesday's match. With DeAngel sitting this one out, Addisyn Quade got some extra time on the court (30 vs. her season average of 15). Quade made the most of the opportunity, scoring 12 points along with two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
LeRoy-Ostrander's loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Wabasha-Kellogg, their victory ended a 24-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-19.
LeRoy-Ostrander will stay at home for another game and welcome Lyle/Pacelli at 7:15 p.m. on February 8th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Minnesota (LeRoy-Ostrander is ranked 391st, while Lyle/Pacelli is ranked 397th). Wabasha-Kellogg's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Charles at 7:15 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Wabasha-Kellogg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
