Garnet Valley is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Haverford is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Jaguars will host the Fords at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Garnet Valley 3.1, Haverford 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
It was a proper cat-fight when Garnet Valley faced off against Springfield on Monday. The Jaguars walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Cougars. The game was the first time the Jaguars have beaten the Cougars on their field since April 16, 2019.
Ryan McGhee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Joe Anzalone was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Harrison Maull, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Haverford hadn't done well against Marple Newtown recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Fords blew past the Fightin' Tigers 11-1. The Fords might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Haverford also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and he was also dialed-in: Gavin McClafferty gave up a run (which was unearned) on two hits.
At the plate, Ryan Cassidy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Campbell McCormack, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Garnet Valley's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7. As for Haverford, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Garnet Valley couldn't quite finish off Haverford when the teams last played back in March and fell 5-3. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
