The Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets lost against the Cairo Syrupmakers back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Thomas County Central took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cairo.
Despite the defeat, Thomas County Central saw an underclassman step up: Colby Mullinax scored 20 points along with five rebounds. The game was Mullinax's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Dunbar IV, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Cairo was led to victory by Amari Powell and Keshen Spence. Powell scored 17 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Spence scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Spence has scored at least 25% of Cairo's points. Another player making a difference was Chris Stewart, who scored six points.
Thomas County Central's loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-4. As for Cairo, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-2.
Thomas County Central will take on Worth County in a holiday battle at 5:00 p.m. on Monday at. As for Cairo, they will head out on the road to face off against Thomasville at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
