Nanakuli is 0-6 against Campbell since March of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Golden Hawks will square off against the Sabers at 3:00 p.m. Nanakuli has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Nanakuli is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They came up short against Kapolei, falling 11-1.
Nanakuli saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaisha Barrozo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That double was Barrozo's first of the season. Maria 'Momo' Felisi-Enriquez was another, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Campbell faced Wai'anae in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Sabers were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Seariders. The Sabers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Kaienna Fuentes-Arellano was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Sophia Alo was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Dalexy Sanchez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Campbell lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Campbell pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Nanakuli, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Nanakuli hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Campbell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Nanakuli might still be hurting after the 21-10 loss they got from Campbell when the teams last played back in March. Can the Golden Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
