Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Elida's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Monday. Elida came out on top against Columbus Grove by a score of 4-1. Elida has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Columbus Grove, too.

Gabe Miley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elida's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Darien Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Jack Daugherty, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Elida has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus Grove, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.

Looking ahead, Elida will take on Upper Sandusky in a tournament on Wednesday. As for Columbus Grove, they will be playing at home against Lima Senior at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
