For the second straight game, Washington will face off against Independence. The Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Patriots at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for Washington after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 18-12 to Independence.

For Independence's part, Rafael Sierra made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Sierra was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-6. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miguel Ponce, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-6. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Jayden Castrillo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Washington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Independence, they moved to 2-5-1 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts.
