On Saturday, Elkhorn Valley had just enough and edged Boyd County out 49-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Elkhorn Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Korbin Werner out in front who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellyn Ollendick, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 47-32 win over Pierce on Thursday. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Bluejays are ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]'s win came from a few key players Elkhorn Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Michael Koenig, who posted 12 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Preston Hoke, who put up ten points and five boards.
Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]'s victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. As for Elkhorn Valley, they have also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Elkhorn Valley hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.3 points per game. However, it's not like Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] struggles in that department as they've been averaging 61.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
