Clarkston took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against North Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Hayden Line
Hayden Line was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clarkston is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Line was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Otis Phillips, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Jace Cometto was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Rogers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 10-1 to Timberlake. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.
Rogers saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Tyler Prosser also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Clarkston picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Rogers, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Everything went Clarkston's way against Rogers in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Clarkston made off with a 10-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clarkston since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
