It was a good run, but the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 57-42 bruising from St. Mary. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elgin/Pope John has scored all season.
Several Wolfpack players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashlynne Charf, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Keyera Eisenhauer, who scored 11 points.
St. Mary's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lorissa Reiman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Reiman hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Hedstrom, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Elgin/Pope John's loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Elgin/Pope John will be playing in front of their home fans against Bloomfield at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bloomfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Elgin/Pope John is ranked 47th). As for St. Mary's, they will square off against McCool Junction at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday.
