Union County is 9-1 against Crittenden County since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Braves will look to defend their home field against the Rockets at 5:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Union County took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let University Heights get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Braves this season.
Coltin Capps looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braden Cluchie, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Garrett Shouse, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Union County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Crittenden County never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hopkins County Central on Monday. They blew past the Storm 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Storm: they've now won nine in a row.
Not much got past Jake Rich, who gave up just six hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Hopkins County Central off the board. Rich has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hudson Stokes was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Crittenden County: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxton Duncan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Union County's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-12. As for Crittenden County, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Union County was able to grind out a solid victory over Crittenden County in their previous matchup back in March, winning 12-7. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
