The Chaparral Wolverines waltzed into their matchup Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 73-61 win over Overland. Given Chaparral's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Overland is ranked 46th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gavin Carter continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 33 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Chaparral's points. Christian Williams was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Several Trailblazers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Siraaj Ali, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Ali's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dontae Graham, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Overland, they bumped their record down to 6-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chaparral will take on Rangeview at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Overland, they will be playing at home against Lewis-Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
