Baseball Recap: Vestaburg Gets the Win

Vestaburg won the last time they faced Webberville and things went their way on Monday too. The Wolverines came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 9-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.

Lucas Bunton made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Vestaburg is 2-1 when Bunton posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jansen Scholer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Blake Rasmussen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Vestaburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.

Vestaburg's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Webberville, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vestaburg will welcome Carson City-Crystal at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Webberville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stockbridge at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
