On Tuesday, things could have been worse for Marshall, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-42 loss to Atlanta. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while Atlanta is ranked 184th).
Despite the loss, Marshall still got an impressive performance from Deacon Arends, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Arends scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Caviness, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Marshall has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Atlanta, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Marshall will challenge Macon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Macon is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Atlanta, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Marion County at 7:30 p.m. Marion County and Atlanta are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
