South Stanly is a perfect 10-0 against Gray Stone Day since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls will challenge the Knights at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While South Stanly's victory against West Brunswick wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rowdy Rebel Bulls had just enough and edged out the Trojans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rowdy Rebel Bulls have posted since May 10, 2024.
Lyric Rucker tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Coco Tyson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Thomas, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Gray Stone Day made easy work of Albemarle last Thursday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five matches by 15 runs or more so far this season.
Reagan Bradshaw was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Helen Klauder was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was London Gray, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
South Stanly is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gray Stone Day, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Stanly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Gray Stone Day struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Stanly took their win against Gray Stone Day when the teams last played on April 9th by a conclusive 14-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rowdy Rebel Bulls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
