Football Recap: Mendon Piles Up the Points Against Bellevue

Mendon extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 6-0. They claimed a resounding 66-12 victory over the Bellevue Broncos. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won five contests by 30 points or more so far this season.

Owen Gorham was his usual excellent self, rushing for 151 yards and three TDs on only five carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 102 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Brayden Crites, who picked up 61 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Mendon's run defense was locked in: Bellevue could only muster 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Tristen Wood for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mendon didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 22.4.

As for Bellevue, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3. They haven't had much luck with Mendon recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Although Bellevue took the loss, they still got scores from Wyatt Dunlap and Jayden Denton.

Coming up, Mendon will take on St. Philip Catholic Central at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Hornets will be up against the Fighting Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.17 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Bellevue, they will be playing at home against Climax-Scotts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
