The Fortune Early College Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Elite Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, Fortune Early College gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 70-43 victory over Leroy Greene Academy.
Fortune Early College relied on the efforts of Nahje Collins, who scored 14 points, and Omarion Davis, who scored 13 points. Collins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Tanner, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, even though Westlake Charter scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, Elite still came out on top. Elite walked away with a 65-58 victory over the Explorers. Given Elite's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Explorers are ranked 1060th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elite got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lemack Bellot out in front who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Goss, who scored 12 points.
Fortune Early College has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. As for Elite, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Fortune Early College hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.2 points per game. However, it's not like Elite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 65.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Fortune Early College was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles in their previous matchup back in January, winning 76-69. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fortune Early College since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
