The James Irwin Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lamar Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Irwin will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
James Irwin won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 64-44 walloping at the hands of Salida. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points James Irwin has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Gabriel Rubio, who scored 18 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Lebron, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Lamar unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Manitou Springs. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lamar in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Lamar had strong showings from Jacob Dunning, who scored 14 points along with two steals, and Deyago Vasquez, who scored 14 points along with six steals. Dunning is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Williams, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
James Irwin's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3. As for Lamar, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: James Irwin have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
James Irwin came up short against the Thunder in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 70-62. Will James Irwin have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
