Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Dodgeville's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

It was close, but on Monday the Dodgeville Dodgers sidestepped the New Glarus Glarner Knights for a 5-4 victory.

Boone Rickard tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Dodgeville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Hesseling, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Jayce Halverson was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Dodgeville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for New Glarus, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dodgeville will head out to challenge Richland Center at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dodgers are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for New Glarus, they will face off against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
