The Platte County Pirates waltzed into their match on Thursday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They secured a 38-34 W over Kearney. Given Platte County's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Kearney is ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Kearney still got an impressive performance from Ryleigh Van emmerik, who scored 11 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Resler, who scored nine points.
Platte County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. As for Kearney, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Platte County will take on Fort Osage at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Fort Osage is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. Kearney will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Excelsior Springs at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th.
