The Liberty Patriots will square off against the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Liberty is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked fifth at the time (Liberty was ranked seventh). The Patriots walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bulldogs on Monday.
Charlotte Crittenden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on 13 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgyn Vesco was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.
Meanwhile, Desert Oasis won against Las Vegas on Friday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks didn't even let Chaparral on the board, marking the Diamondbacks' second-straight 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Diamondbacks, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Brianna Bartok made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bartok was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Veyda Simon, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2. Cassidy Infante was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Desert Oasis hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.
Desert Oasis' victory bumped their record up to 7-5-1. As for Liberty, their win bumped their record up to 10-4-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Desert Oasis struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Liberty was able to grind out a solid victory over Desert Oasis in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-5. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Diamondbacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
