Walkertown hasn't had much luck against McMichael recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolfpack will head out to take on the Phoenix at 6:00 p.m. The last three games Walkertown has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Walkertown's victory against Morehead wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolfpack came out on top against the Panthers on Tuesday by a score of 2-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolfpack have posted since March 3rd.
Not much got past Macy Miller, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Morehead off the board.
At the plate, Walkertown secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Taylor Isley, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McMichael). They never let North Forsyth get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Phoenix, who have now won four matches in a row.
Kora Ingle made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, McMichael got a massive performance out of Samantha Hopson, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Hopson a new career-high. Olivia Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
McMichael was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
McMichael's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Walkertown, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Walkertown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like McMichael struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Walkertown suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to McMichael in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Wolfpack avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
