Basketball Recap: Mesa Skates Past Skyline with Ease

Mesa had won four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 14-5 to make it five. They breezed past the Skyline Coyotes to the tune of 80-49. The Jackrabbits have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 25 points or more this season.

Mesa found their leader in sophomore Jakyi Miles, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine boards. The contest was Miles' ninth in a row with at least 21 points. Braxton Caruso also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

As for Skyline, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Mesa is ranked tenth).

Skyline's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Bowens, who posted 14 points. Bowens is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Reyes, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 15 points.

Mesa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-35 win against Westwood on the 23rd. As for Skyline, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-51 defeat against Corona del Sol on the 23rd.
