The Olton Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Floydada Whirlwinds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Tahoka scored an imposing 48 points on Friday, Olton still came out on top. Olton strolled past Tahoka with points to spare, taking the game 62-48. The win was just what Olton needed coming off of a 56-21 defeat in their prior match.
Olton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Ruiz, who rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Raymond Ramirez, who threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Floydada's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They managed a 24-19 win over Post.
It was another big night for Tyrean Henderson, who rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Henderson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Braun Hobbs also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.
Olton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Floydada, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Olton beat Floydada 39-27 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Floydada's Andres Mendoza, who rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 69 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Olton to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
